All 379 passengers and crew aboard a Japan Airlines plane crash survived, escaping unharmed before the plane became engulfed in flames. Unfortunately, five people lost their lives on the small plane belonging to the Japan Coast Guard that they crashed into on the runway. The passenger jet evacuation with minimal injuries was a miracle, while the near-total loss of passengers on the smaller plane was a tragedy. The exact cause of the collision is unknown, although the crash happened at night, and it is possible the passenger jet did not see the smaller plane on the runway. The Japan Coast Guard plane was en route to help victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami nearby.
