Nikole Hannah-Jones Rejects Offer Of Tenure From UNC

Creator of the “1619 Project” Nikole Hannah-Jones has rejected an offer of tenure from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). In April of 2021, Hannah-Jones joined the Hussman School of Journalism and Media and became the Knight Chair in Race and Investigative Journalism. According to Jones, her predecessors in this role have always been tenured. But when Hannah-Jones initially applied for tenure, she was denied.

The first tenure denial sparked a huge media frenzy that also became political. According to several news sources, lawyers and other influential people like Ta-Nehisi Coates got involved. Media outlets essentially labeled UNC as racist for denying Hannah-Jones tenure. Other outlets pointed out the obvious… maybe Nikole Hannah-Jones does not deserve tenure. Her shining accomplishment, the 1619 Project, is seen by several respected scholars as pure garbage. Either way, the seeds were sown for an issue like the current dilemma to rise.

After all of the media and political fallout, UNC reverses course and grants Nikole Hannah-Jones tenure. She immediately rejects the offer and announces that she will become a Knight Chair in a similar role over at Howard University, which is a historically black college. The speed of the tenure offer and the counter-punch which was to quit and start a brand-new role at another college suggests that this was probably planned well in advance. In sort of a petty, stick-it-to-the-man type of way. Also, the offer and rejection adds to the chip on the shoulder that leftist race hustlers need to keep the facade alive.

The problem here is that Hannah-Jones should have never been elevated to the Knight Chair without the proper qualifications. This may simply be a diversity experiment gone wrong. Giving her an inch became a several-miles long embarrassment. This should serve as a lesson learned for UNC. Living by the woke sword means you die the same way.
