NYC Green Energy Program Saves Gas But Primarily Saves Money

A “green energy” program in NYC seeks to swap out gas appliances with electric ones for free in many older homes. The plan is marketed as something that will improve the environment by reducing carbon emissions. The changes are often welcomed and appreciated by the recipients. The only issue is that this appears to be more of a money-saving measure instead of anything that will impact the environment. Replacing old gas lines to certain homes in New York would cost more than simply donating new electric appliances to those homes. The demand on the power grid will increase due to these hundreds of new appliances that will go online in a short time, which will increase demand for carbon-emitting fuel sources.
