President Donald Trump closed out the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with an iconic speech. Trump took the stage at about 10:30 pm EST and left shortly after midnight. Media types and social media users criticized the speech for being long, drawn out, and low-energy. Others said that it was reassuring, inspirational, and emotional. Trump clearly tried to appear solid and level-headed after being shot in the ear at his rally near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. And, of course, Trump spoke about the assassination attempt in full detail, giving credit to God for saving his life.
The speech became emotional when Trump gave tribute to Corey Comperatore, the volunteer fire chief who was shot and killed at the rally. Comperatore’s jacket and hat were on stage with Trump. Cameras captured the moment when Trump approached the display and kissed Comperatore’s helmet. It was almost as if Trump could connect to the man’s spirit in that moment. Many people said they began to cry at that moment.
