Seattle Police Department announced they will not respond to burglary alarms without substantial evidence. This includes audio and/or video evidence sent to the police. The reason for such a drastic policy change is quite simple. There are insufficient police officers or resources to respond to most burglary calls. Most burglary calls that come into police stations are false. This is a problem that affects the entire nation. However, Seattle is a unique case due to the city’s politics. Just a few years ago, a portion of the town was taken over by anti-police criminals. An entire station was taken, and the police were forced out. The “Defund the Police” movement has firm roots in Seattle. The general anti-police environment is unsustainable. Policies like this will continue to happen in other cities nationwide for the same reason: a lack of proper investment and trust in police from the community.
