Social Security Administration says they overpaid a Chicago couple after the husband suffered 105 days in the hospital due to a pancreatic disease. Although the couple did everything by the book, the Government does not care. They were still sent a bill to pay back the money. As a result of the overpayment, the couple now owes a whopping $51,887 and they have just 30 days to pay it.
The husband-and-wife team are both 62 years old and work fairly middle-of-the-road jobs, at best. The husband is paid $16 per hour as security at an apartment complex and the wife works as an occupational therapy assistant at a nursing home. Obviously, such a large amount of money would be impossible for them to pay, especially in just 30 days. In a sit-down interview with CBS 60 Minutes, the wife says she fears they will lose their home over something that was completely the fault of the Federal Government.
