Three Southside Chicago KFC locations abruptly closed amid a wife of crime and violence in the city. The Chatham locations were owned by one franchiser. He did not offer an official explanation for the closings. Local residents and politicians alike were taken aback by the decision, especially since one of the locations had been under renovation for months. These closures are more of the same type of events in the same area over the past few weeks. A movie theater in the area also closed. A local Alderman says that these closings hurt the community and invite violence. He explained that abandoned structures and a lack of jobs create an environment where criminality thrives.
