A viral social media rumor alleging that white staffers at Texas Roadhouse were targeting Black patrons has been widely labeled unfounded, with the restaurant chain calling it a hoax.
In late August 2026, screenshots of an alleged Facebook post began circulating on TikTok, X, Instagram, and other platforms. The post, attributed to a user named Nancy Smith in a group called “White and Proud,” claimed that white servers at Texas Roadhouse and Logan’s Roadhouse belonged to a secret Facebook group of more than 400,000 members. According to the screenshots, those servers discussed contaminating food served to Black customers by licking their fingers and touching meals in a kitchen “blind spot,” and that dinner rolls were “full of our white saliva.” The post referenced the controversy as retaliation tied to other racial incidents.
The original Facebook post was later deleted, leaving only screenshots. No specific restaurant location, named employee, or confirmed incident was identified. At least one user who helped amplify the claim later retracted it, saying further research showed it was a hoax and apologizing for spreading it. Fact-checkers found no evidence that the described 400,000-member servers group existed or that any organized tampering campaign occurred. Texas Roadhouse responded quickly on its official TikTok account and in statements to media. The company said it does not tolerate discrimination, harassment, or mistreatment of any kind and expects employees to treat every guest with dignity and care. It called the specific accusation “completely unfounded” and “abhorrent,” said it was investigating, and later stated that its review plus outside sources pointed to an online hoax.
Chief Communications Officer Travis Doster told USA TODAY the company believes the story is “100% a hoax,” adding there is “zero evidence,” no video of any servers engaging in the alleged behavior, and no identified current or former employees involved. The chain said it hired a third-party firm to try to locate the source of the allegation. It also described its food-handling process, including a “Manager in the Window” system in which prepared food is checked for quality before going to the table.
