USDA Approves Lab-Grown Meat For Human Consumption, Will Debut In California Restaurant

The USDA has approved lab-grown chicken for sale and human consumption. It will debut at a San Francisco, California restaurant. The process to create lab chicken is sort of complicated but it can be explained in a simple way. Real cells of animals are taken to a lab where they are duplicated and then used to grow meat. The meat is grown in cryo chambers over a period of time. The handful of companies who are approved to sell this meat hope to get the “cruelty-free” product on store shelves within five years. Champions of “lab meat” say this will also cut down on carbon emissions and water usage. Opponents have obvious criticisms of the method by which the meat will reach the market. The texture and physical appearance of it is also questionable.
