Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde confronted President Donald Trump at the National Cathedral during an inaugural prayer service. Her issues were with migrants and members of the LGBTQ community, who she says fear for their lives under the new administration. President Trump has already passed executive orders on things such as a “two gender” policy and on the Southern Border between the United States and Mexico. Budde says that if Trump is not merciful, then the people who pick crops and work undesirable jobs would be negatively affected.
Mariann Budde is a Bishop and the first woman to serve as the spiritual leader of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington. The church she oversees is St. John’s in D.C., which was set ablaze during Black Lives Matter and ANTIFA riots during the 2020 Presidential campaign season. Trump famously stood outside of the building with a Bible, which was praised by many and condemned by many others. Budde has appeared on television quite a bit from that time up until currently. Back then, she appeared on PBS and attempted to blame the “fire” (arson) on Trump, saying that he stoked the flames by his rhetoric.
