Joe Biden delivered the 2023 State of the Union Address in front of a joint session of Congress on Tuesday, February 7th, 2023. He spoke for about 80 minutes, followed by a 10 to 15-minute GOP rebuttal by Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Biden’s speech centered around the economy and other critical leftist issues including abortion and gun control. Many members of the GOP expressed loud disagreements at certain times of the night when Biden made statements they disagreed with. An example would be Biden accusing a small portion of the GOP of advocating for “sunsetting” medicare and Medicaid. There were quite a few controversial moments throughout the speech. The most confusing moment happened at the beginning when Kamala Harris’s husband Doug Emhoff kissed President Biden’s wife, Jill, on the lips.
