Trans Activists Occupy Oklahoma State Capitol Over the “Millstone Act”

Trans rights activists occupied the Oklahoma State Capitol on February 7th, 2023 to protest the “Millstone Act”. This bill, if signed into law, would bar gender reassignment and/or gender-affirming surgeries for minors and also adults under the age of 26. Doctors found guilty of participating in such surgeries, including referrals, would face felony criminal charges. This move is being hailed as necessary to protect the innocence of children. LGBTQ+ activists say that the bill is an outright attack on their community. They occupied the state capitol on Tuesday without much interference from local police, let alone federal agents. The story was much different on January 6th, 2021 in Washington, D.C., though.
