Former Democratic Presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard has announced her departure from the Democratic Party. Gabbard was also a member of the US House as a Democratic from Hawaii from 2013-2021. She has garnered a lot of attention and praise from moderate conservatives for her Republican-like viewpoints on the issues of foreign war, personal freedom, and cancel culture. The conservative viewpoints she has along with the far-leftist direction the Democratic party has taken have essentially forced the former House Rep. to leave the party.
Now, of course, there is a million-dollar question here. Tulsi Gabbard did not say she was leaving the Democratic Party for the Republican Party. So where will she end up? The answer to that question isn’t totally clear. Judging by her exit speech, she will most likely become an Independent. This could be a plan for her to run for President again in 2024 as an Independent instead of a Democrat. She could have some success as a spoiler in the vein of Ross Perot in 1992. And, of course, she would spoil the Republican Party’s chance of winning if she gained enough steam (and money) to be the alternative choice.
