A jury acquitted a man of serious charges that he was facing after shooting a YouTuber during a failed prank at a Northern Virginia mall. The man, Alan Colie entered Dulles Town Center to pick up an order from the Food Court to deliver to a customer. That’s when he had an encounter with prankster Tanner Cook of the “Classified Goons” YouTube channel. Cook, towering over Colie at 6’5″, approached the delivery driver with his phone playing an automated and obscene message. Colie did not engage with Cook and tried to walk away. Cook began to follow Colie while playing the same strange message on his phone. That’s when things fell apart.
Alan Colie pulled his gun out and shot Tanner Cook one time as Cook was following him through the food court. Cook was injured but recovered. Colie was arrested and was hit with three charges, one of which was “malicious wounding”, a very serious charge in Virginia. Although the jury acquitted Colie of two out of the three charges he faced, he was still convicted of one and remains in jail. Colie’s lawyer pleaded to the judge to have that conviction set aside on the grounds of self-defense which is the same reason why he beat the other charges.
