The new CEO of AXIOS, Jim VandeHei, raged over Elon Musk saying that Twitter (X) users are the new media. VandeHei said that simply having a “blue check” and an opinion online does not make one a reporter. He made the comments during a gala with other media types. MSNBC showed VandeHei’s comments during an episode of “Morning Joe” and the panel of pundits applauded in unison at the clip’s conclusion.
This interaction displays just how much of a divide there is between the common man and mainstream media. MSNBC, and other news outlets, are suffering tremendous ratings losses. There is a bunch of jostling in an attempt to squeeze whatever revenue possible out of these failing networks. There are a bunch of theories behind mainstream media’s ratings drops. An objective mind would point toward how the media have lost credibility due to constantly promoting false stories and narratives. This is causing a rise in alterative media and many of these people have large social media followings.
