Ohio-based billionaire real estate tycoon Larry Connor has plans to visit the Titanic wreckage in a $20 million submersible. Connor will be accompanied on the trip by Patrick Lahey, the co-founder of Triton Submersible. Leahy is also one of the world’s most well-respected and skilled divers. Connor and fellow adventurer Victor Vescovo recently plunged seven miles under the ocean’s surface to the bottom of the Marianas Trench. The Titanic wreckage is an estimated 2.5 miles deep.
This news comes nearly one year after the disaster that unfolded after Stockton Rush piloted a submersible from his OceanGate company to the wreckage. Shortly after the OceanGate vessel departed, communication was lost. The search for the ship gripped the nation for one whole week until the imploded and scattered remains were discovered in nearby waters.
