Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka has been suspended for the entire upcoming NBA basketball season due to conduct detrimental to the team. The specifics surrounding what he has done are the current subject of heavy speculation. The Boston Celtics organization has not released much information. A joint press conference between Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck and Basketball Operations President Brad Stephens revealed little to no further information about Udoka’s suspension. All that has been officially released is that Udoka essentially participated in conduct detrimental to the team.
ESPN initally reported that Ime Udoka engaged in a consensual but improper relationship with a female Boston Celtics staffer. The staffer was unfortunately not named which led to massive speculation as to who the person could be. Pictures and names were released online but unnamed sources say that at least one of the people named were not actually involved. If the suspsension was related to a relationship with a female staffer, and this relationship violated team policy, then there is an obvious question to ask. Shouldn’t the staffer also be in volation of team policy? And if so, why wouldn’t they be named?
NBA insiders suggest that Ime Udoka was involved with married women somehow related to Boston Celtics top brass. Meaning, Udoka could have been sleeping with an executive’s wife. Then there are the allegations of unwanted sexual harassment from at least one female staffer and/or person linked to the Celtics. Even if all of the relationships were consensual, Ime Udoka appears to have made terrible choices in this situation. The issue with his long-time girlfriend Nia Long is strictly an issue of morality that they need to work out among themselves. But to carry on with a Boston Celtics executive’s wife or to engage in full on sexual harassment is simply career suicide.
