Illinois State Rep Lashawn K. Ford, who resides in the Chicago area, held a press conference in suburban Evanston in which he called to abolish history classes throughout the state. Ford says no history classes should be taught again until a suitable replacement was implemented. Ford’s office released a news release entitled “Rep. Ford Today in Evanston to Call for the Abolishment of History Classes in Illinois Schools.”
The Chicago-area Illinois State rep’s explanation behind his desire to abolish history is all-too-familiar in today’s day and age. Ford says that the current history curriculum leads to a racist society and overlooks the works of minorities and women. In the news release from Ford’s office, it reads: “I’m calling on the Illinois State Board of Education and local school districts to take immediate action by removing current history books and curriculum practices that unfairly communicate our history.“
Indoctrination Nation
The reality behind Lashawn K. Ford’s request is that he desires to simply indoctrinate children in Illinois schools, not properly educate them. Another quote from Ford’s news release proves the aforementioned point: “Until a suitable alternative is developed, we should instead devote greater attention toward civics and ensuring students understand our democratic processes and how they can be involved.” Civics class is a thing, so why must Illinois abolish history classes to teach civics? Moreover, why must civics be taught in the manner that Lashawn Ford mandates?
Answers to the previous questions are very easy to come up with to anyone who is paying any attention at all to the current climate of the United States. Modern-day book-burnings are happening right now in Portland, Oregon – no different than 1930s Germany. The new and “woke” history curriculum might want to leave that pesky detail out.
Good Old-Fashioned Book Burning
How would existing history books be disposed of to usher in the new curriculum? A book-burning might even be suggested here. Why not? Better than throwing tons of books into a landfill and it serves a symbolic purpose. To cleanse the nation of hateful messaging and imagery. Similar to those who burn not only books, but flags and crosses. Lashawn Ford would probably love to burn a very specific flag described in his news release: “I’m also alarmed that people continue to display symbols of hate, such as the recent display of the Confederate flag in Evanston.”
An “aggressive” or “hateful” display of the confederate flag has absolutely nothing to do with history. History is simply a re-telling and study of prior events in history. Civics and social studies are classes that focus on the behavior of people. There is simply no need to abolish history classes to bolster the other two existing courses. But then again, ideology is a thing that schools don’t necessarily teach. Maybe that is the actual endgame here.
