CNN Cancels “Don Lemon Tonight” In Continuation of Chris Licht Shakeup

CNN has canceled Don Lemon’s primetime show “Don Lemon Tonight” in a continuation of shakeups by the new CEO, Chris Licht. CNN has given the axe to Chris Cuomo, Jeffrey Toobin, Brian Stelter, and others. Don Lemon, however, will not actually be fired. The anchor will simply be moved to daytime hours alongside Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins. Lemon’s new on-air team will star in a show that will replace CNN’s long-struggling “New Day”. Many casual observers of television news are not surprised by the Don Lemon move.

It has been long speculated that Lemon’s show was in jeopardy after Brian Stelter’s show was canceled. Next on the chopping block could be Jim Acosta. And the reason for all of these high-profile adjustments on CNN is that the network is attempting to take a different direction. Chris Licht may see all of these popular figures as relics of Jeff Zucker. Not only are they relics, but ineffective relics. Popular names but unable to generate new viewers, which the network desperately needs.
