Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick recently accused his white adoptive parents of perpetuating racism against him. The claims come from an exclusive “CBS Mornings” interview in which he promoted his new graphic novel titled “Change The Game”. The comic book, co-written by professor and sociologist at the University of Chicago Eva L. Ewing, is a “coming of age” story about Kaepernick’s childhood. The obvious issue addressed here is his biracial heritage and being raised by two white adoptive parents. Kaepernick makes the allegation that his white parents attempted to downplay his “blackness” by questioning his desire to have “cornrows” in his hair.
