Liberals in Washington, D.C., defended the hordes of teens relentlessly stealing from their local CVS. The looting was so intense and so frequent that the store went viral for having completely empty shelves. The only things available for purchase were typically locked up behind glass. The CVS did, however, have a functioning pharmacy. Aside from the pharmacy, there wasn’t much to purchase in the store on the non-secured shelves besides sunscreen and greeting cards. The store is now closing.
Official statements from CVS do not mention the rampant thievery that typically happened as soon as the resupply truck arrived. Local residents spoke to local news media on camera about the store. They defended the thieves, saying that maybe they could not afford the items in the store and that the city should provide ultra-low cost or free items instead. “Street vendors” often set up shop near CVS with items obviously stolen from the store. Local teenagers steal snacks and drinks from the resupply truck before it can stock the shelves.
