Don Lemon recently issued an apology over the phone to his colleagues after his on-air comments about Nikki Haley. The 56-year-old CNN anchor attempted to make a counterpoint to one of Haley’s early campaign promises. The former South Carolina Governor would like to issue mandatory cognitive tests for any politician over the age of 75 if she becomes President in 2024.
Lemon says he has an issue with “ageism” in this case. He offered a counterpoint to Haley’s “ageism” by saying she would be considered past her prime because of her age and gender. Lemon immediately said that he does not agree with that sentiment but that sentiment does exist. His two female co-hosts were upset, with Poppy Harlow being the most visibly disturbed. Lemon was widely condemned for his comments not because of an attack on a conservative politician, but because of misogyny.
