Georgia’s Court of Appeals has agreed to hear Trump’s team’s bid to remove Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis from the election interference case. Earlier this year, Judge Scott McAfee allowed Willis to stay on the case despite her affair with Special Prosecutor Nathan Wade. His ruling was that either she must recuse herself or remove Wade. She chose the latter.
This ruling is a tremendous win for President Trump, as it nearly ensures that the case will not go forward even if Willis is not removed. The appeal process takes quite a bit of time, and it will most certainly delay any possible start of the trial proceedings. And if Willis is successfully removed from the trial, the entire case will likely go with it. Removing the District Attorney also necessitates the rest of the D.A.’s office leaving with her. A District Attorney in a neighboring county would need to pick up the case. The chances of that happening are slim to none.
