FEMA whistleblowers have come forward with the story of being told to avoid homes with Trump signs in a hurricane-damaged area of Florida. The scope of the discrimination is relatively small with an estimated 20 homes skipped. The problem is that discrimination is undeniably illegal when it comes to Federal agencies. Leaked internal communication reveals that field workers were also told to practice de-escalation tactics when approaching damaged homes. This may point to a fear that Trump supporters would lash out at FEMA workers due to Trump’s rhetoric about the agency being run poorly and inefficiently. However, there have been no reports of violence against FEMA workers. There has, however, been reports of FEMA money going to pay for the migrant crisis. There are also reports of hurricane victims in western North Carolina being denied the one-time payment of $750 from an automatic computer algorithm decision.
