Florida Gamestop Worker Charged With Manslaughter After Shooting Shoplifter Over Pokemon Cards

A Fort Lauderdale, Florida man has been charged with manslaughter after shooting a man accused of attempting to shoplift Pokemon cards. The shoplifter jumped behind the counter and grabbed five boxes of the “ultra-premium” Pokemon Scarlet & Violet trading cards before making a dash for the exit. The cards are worth $120 per box. 33-year-old store manager Derrick Guerrero pulled a handgun from his waist and shot the shoplifter one time in the side. A woman waiting in a pickup truck for the shoplifter called the police before taking him to the hospital. The man died three hours later. The store manager was released from jail on $25,000 bail with an ankle monitor. He expressed remorse and was apologetic to the shoplifter’s family, saying that he did not wish for any of this to happen.
