A Florida police officer opened fire on his own squad car after mistaking the noise of a fallen acorn for a gunshot. Other officers opened fire on the car as well after hearing the “shots fired” exclamation from the mistaken cop. There was an unarmed man handcuffed in the back of the vehicle at the time of the shooting. Luckily, he was not harmed, although he was understandably shaken up. The officer not only thought the gunfire was coming from his squad car, but he also felt that he had been shot. He was completely uninjured. All of this bizarre event was captured on body camera footage. The officer in question resigned shortly afterward.
