The world-famous astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson appeared on a podcast recently and attempted to debunk the idea of chromosomes defining gender. Tyson, who fancies himself as a “scientist”, delivered a very anti-science message. He got into the philosophy of gender and deviated away from what is easily provable. XX chromosomes define women and XY chromosomes define men. Tyson stated that a person may feel 80% male one day, then 20% male the next day. His argument is that gender exists on a spectrum and chromosomes are no longer “sufficient” to define what gender a person is.
