NYC Federal Judge Says Firefighters Who Booed Letitia James Are Racist

NYC Federal Judge Nicholas Garaufis called firefighters “racist” for heckling New York Attorney General Letitia James. The Brooklyn Federal Court Judge made this statement in the context of another case about a backlog of equal opportunity complaints. Judge Garaufis agreed with the President of the Vulcan Society of Black firefighters, Regina Wilson, who said the heckling incident was an example of FDNY’s racist culture. Garaufis then demanded FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh and the city’s Corporation Counsel, Sylvia Hinds-Radix, before him to explain the reasoning behind the backlog.

“I don’t know if you had an opportunity to just see the vile nature of these members even when we were at Christian Cultural Center where they started booing and saying ‘Trump, Trump Trump,’ while Letitia James was at the podium,” Wilson said.
