NYC Mayor Eric Adams has been accused of assaulting a woman 30 years ago in 1993. This is one of 2,500 lawsuits of its type filed in the past year due in large part to the Adult Survivors Act. This act gives adult survivors the ability to file claims against their alleged abusers irrespective of the statute of limitations. It was signed into law in May 2022 by New York Governor Kathy Hochul. Other celebrities such as Sean “Diddy Combs, Axl Rose, Bill Cosby, Jamie Foxx, and Andrew Cuomo have had lawsuits levied against them as a result of the new law.
