Perry, Iowa, was the site of an unfortunate incident that claimed the life of a sixth-grader and injured five other people. Four students and the principal of Perry High School were injured by 17-year-old Dylan Butler. Police arrived on the scene of the shooting and discovered Butler deceased with what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Butler’s social media platforms were discovered shortly after the shooting. He posted a picture of himself in what appears to be the school’s bathroom early in the morning, just before the shooting. He was armed with a pump-action shotgun and a small-caliber handgun, both of which are illegal for a 17-year-old to possess in Iowa.
Mass shooting events in the United States tend to have specific patterns. Especially when it comes to events in recent years. Dylan Butler’s TikTok page featured the LGBTQ flag. The Covenant School shooter in Nashville, Tennessee, was also part of this community. One of the most devastating mass shooting incidents of all time was at Pulse Night Club. The shooter at Pulse was allegedly a closeted gay man who took out his internal battle on innocent gay clubgoers. Butler’s classmates appeared on camera after the shooting and said that he was a constant target of bullying.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre rolled out the customary “gun control” response to the shooting. She says that gun manufacturers should be held liable for such incidents and that there should be tighter background checks along with red flag laws. None of those, as mentioned above, would have made a difference with a criminal who obtained his weapons and possessed his weapons illegally. Clearly, Butler had severe problems with mental health. The underlying issue behind all of the recent mass shootings in America is young people who are losing internal battles.
