Pete Buttigieg Says Buy An All-Electric Vehicle To Save On Gas

Pete Buttigieg and Stephen Colbert both said that buying an electric vehicle such as a Tesla would help save gas money. This comes on the heels of a record-high average price per gallon of gas in the United States. California has seen some of the highest prices reaching nearly ten dollars for one gallon. And these high gas prices will inevitably impact other areas of life aside from simply fueling up a car. These facts did not prevent Transportation Secretary Buttigieg or late-night talk show host Stephen Colbert from pushing for electric vehicles as some sort of end-all-be-all solution.

The recommendation of “go green” as a problem-solver has been nearly universally criticized as an “out of touch” take from the likes of Colbert and Buttigieg. If a person cannot afford higher prices for gas at the pump then how is it possible for that same person to afford a brand new car? Here’s an example. A person owns a car outright that is only worth about $5,000 on the open market. A 30% increase in the cost of gas at the pump makes gas unaffordable for that person. The only rational solution they have is to either raise their income or stop driving until the price of gas goes down. Buying an electric car is simply out of the question for them. How can this person afford a car note if they can’t afford the 30% increase in gas at the pump?

Colbert (and many others) tried to justify the ban of Russian oil/gas by saying it’s sort of America’s moral obligation to absorb the increase of gas at the pump. Moral obligations don’t pay bills or feed hungry children. It’s easy for Colbert to come out of his pocket to virtue signal but not everyone in the world has that same luxury. Not even in the richest country in the world – the United States. This comes off more like an attempt to force “green energy” onto the American market above anything else. Greta Thunberg, Al Gore, and other climate gurus don’t seem to care about the obvious damaging effects their policies will have on the average person in the world.
