Teenage Gang Member Shoulder Checks Cop, Immediately Regrets It

A 17-year-old gang member from Atlanta, Georgia decided to “shoulder check” a police officer while exiting a convenience store and immediately regretted that decision. Earlier in 2023, the police were called to respond to a disturbance at a store involving someone carrying a gun. When the officer arrived, he opened the door and a teenager deliberately bumped him. The officer pushed the teenager against the nearby wall outside the store and proceeded to pat him down. The entire interaction from beginning to end was captured on the officer’s body camera.

The first thing that stood out in the camera footage was a “window punch” in the teenager’s back pocket. This is a common tool that young gang members use in Atlanta to break into cars to steal things. As the pat-down continued, the officer found a spare pistol magazine and a Glock handgun with a “switch” on the back of the receiver. “Switches” transform the semi-automatic pistol into a machine gun, which is highly illegal. The gun was later found to be stolen from Sandy Springs. The teenager was, of course, arrested for the shoulder bump on the officer, the stolen gun, the window punch, and the altercation in the store. He also had a prior warrant for robbery.
