The owner of Leak & Sons Funeral Home in Chicago gave a tearful plea to the general public after a shooting happened during a funeral. He said that his family has done all that is typically requested of affluent people in “the community.” They “bought the block”, which means that they own the property on and near the funeral home that they operate. They provide the community with jobs and tax revenue. All of that doesn’t seem to be enough. So the obvious question that must be answered is… “what else can we do?”
An 18-year-old male was killed in a homicide, likely as a result of gang violence. During the funeral, a drive-by shooting targeted the chapel where the funeral was happening. Two people were killed as a result. Shootings at funerals have become a common occurrence not only in Chicago but also in other major urban inner-city areas across the country.
