DGA Board Member Says Obesity Is Not Driven By Diet & Exercise

Dietary Guidelines of America board member Fatima Cody Stanford says that genetics is the leading driver of obesity rather than diet and exercise. Twenty people have been named to the advisory committee that will help shape the 2025-2030 edition of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, including health equity experts. The goal of this organization, which is part of HHS and USDA, is to provide Americans with healthy, life-improving dietary advice. Stanford’s area of expertise is in obesity. A clip from a CBS 60 Minutes interview featuring Stanford that has essentially gone viral shows her making a claim about diet and exercise that is preposterous.
