A Florida Senate meeting on Health Policy went off the proverbial rails when public speakers discussed their grievance with a new bill. 2023 Florida Senate Bill 254 addresses “treatment for sex reassignment.” To be a little more specific, the bill bans minors under the age of 18 from receiving gender reassignment surgery and also medication for the same purpose. Many of the speakers, both minor and adult, came forward to disavow the bill. Some even called it “genocidal” on the transgender community. Ron DeSantis and the State of Florida Government stand by the bill, as the intention is to protect minors who should not be subject to such life-altering changes so early in life.
