Heavily Armed Man Found Dead In Colorado Park Was Going To Commit Mass Shooting

A heavily armed man was found deceased in the women’s bathroom of a Colorado amusement park. 20-year-old Diego Barajas Medina suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound according to Garfield County Coroner Robert Glassmire. Authorities found the young man before employees began to stream into the park as he made his way inside the facility while it was closed. Medina had a semi-automatic pistol, an “AR-style” rifle, several explosives, and body armor. All of the aforementioned materials were either close to him in the bathroom or in his vehicle. Some of the explosives were fake, and some were real. A sweep of the park was conducted and no other explosives were found elsewhere.

Media looked to be carrying out a mass shooting but instead decided to take his own life. A note was scrawled on the wall of the bathroom that he was found in. It said, “I am not a killer, I just want to get into the caves.” It is not quite clear what this note was about or if Medina actually wrote it himself. Authorities say that there was no prior indication of Medina having troubles that would him down the road of committing a mass shooting. This is in sharp contrast to the Maine mass shooting, where police visited the home of the shooter six weeks beforehand because they feared he would do exactly what he wound up doing.
