Jessica Jackson Challenges Cook County Officials on Voting Rights and Local Crises

CHICAGO — During a recent public comment period at a Cook County Finance Committee meeting, activist Jessica Jackson of the pro-Trump group Chicago Flips Red delivered a pointed rebuke to county commissioners, rejecting claims that Black voting rights are under attack while spotlighting what she described as far more urgent threats to Black families in the area.

Jackson, a 63-year-old Chicago resident, directly addressed Commissioners Tara Stamps (1st District) and Dr. Kisha McCaskill (5th District). She dismissed their references to the Voting Rights Act of 1965 as “propaganda,” arguing that Black voters face no real suppression. “I’ve been voting since I was 18 years old,” she stated. “Black people’s voting is not in danger and you know it’s not.” Jackson accused officials of using historic civil rights language to distract from everyday crises affecting longtime residents.

Instead, she focused on issues she says are eroding generational wealth in Black communities across Cook County. Jackson highlighted the loss of roughly 2,500 Black-owned homes and equity through delinquent property tax sales since 2020 — practices she noted have continued despite U.S. Supreme Court rulings deeming aspects of them unconstitutional. She also criticized probate court proceedings for allegedly facilitating property theft from families and raised concerns about unlawful demolitions that bypass due process. “Politicians keep using historic civil rights language during election season,” she argued, “but stay silent when Black families lose homes, land, inheritance, and wealth through government systems operating in their own backyard.”

Her remarks extended to broader county spending priorities, including what she called excessive focus on immigrants and sanctuary policies at the expense of local quality-of-life issues like crime, taxes, and housing stability for residents. Jackson also defended former President Trump on related policy matters, such as challenges to birthright citizenship interpretations.

The testimony reflects ongoing friction between Chicago Flips Red members and Democratic-led Cook County officials. A Chicago Tribune report earlier this month detailed growing impatience among commissioners with the group’s public comments, which have sometimes veered into non-agenda items and heated exchanges. Jackson’s latest remarks have circulated widely on social media, drawing praise from critics of local governance and highlighting divides over priorities in one of the nation’s largest counties.

Chicago Flips Red has vowed to continue using public meetings to push for greater accountability on property rights, tax policies, and community wealth preservation. Jackson’s speech underscores a growing grassroots pushback against what some residents view as misplaced political narratives amid pressing local challenges.
