NFL Now Mandates Diversity Hiring After Rooney Rule Expansion

The NFL has announced an expansion to the Rooney Rule to now include mandatory diversity hiring in an effort to improve racial representation. Each team must hire at least one ethnic, racial, or gender minority to their offensive coaching staff. This means that this minority may also be a woman and not necessarily a racial minority. The purpose of the required position going to the offensive side of the coaching staff is because most head coaches have offensive experience. The idea is to populate the pipeline of potential future head coaches with more minority candidates. This rule change comes on the heels of former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores suing the NFL over racial discrimination.
