Atlanta police officers involved with the Rayshard Brooks shooting at Wendy’s drive-thru have both been charged with myriad crimes including felony murder. Garrett Rolfe, the officer who actually shot Brooks, is facing up to a life sentence or death row. The other officer, Devin Brosnan, is facing fewer charges and has agreed to testify against Rolfe.
The charges were announced on Wednesday, June 17th, 2020 by Fulton County (Georgia) District Attorney Paul Howard. Howard recently charged six Atlanta Police Department officers with aggravated assault for using a taser on college students during an arrest. The taser was listed as a deadly weapon in that case. But for some reason, the taser, in this case, does not appear to qualify as deadly enough for the officers to claim self-defense.
