Pilot’s Union Says The Term “Cockpit” Is Offensive, Non-Inclusive

The union that represents more than 70,000 commercial pilots says the term “cockpit” is offensive and non-inclusive to protected groups of people. Instead of “cockpit,” the term “flight deck” is preferred. There are other terms deemed “non-inclusive” in the world of aviation, such as “ladies and gentlemen,” “manpower,” and “guys.” This comes on the heels of previous movements to change phrases such as “master bathroom” in real estate due to a potential link to slavery in the United States.
