ESPN host Stephen A. Smith has displayed his ignorance of the Southern Border crisis on a recent episode of his show. Smith mentioned a recent bill signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott that makes illegal immigration a state crime. If a person is suspected of coming into the United States illegally through Texas while in Texas, they can be arrested and charged with local crimes. Stephen A Smith thinks this law is racist and that it will lead to the racial profiling of Latinos who speak Spanish. Smith is from New York City where 70% of the recent migrants are African.
The Southern Border is under the jurisdiction of the Federal Government. Any issues with the border, including immigration both legal and illegal, are typically the responsibility of Federal agencies. However, the Biden Administration has taken a hands-off approach to the border, leaving Texas in a precarious situation.
Tens of thousands of people bombard the border every day and mostly come through Texas. This has caused Texas Governor Greg Abbott to send buses and planes full of migrants to “sanctuary” cities around the country such as Chicago and New York. Of course, this strategy is not sufficient to deal with the problem. Sanctuary city leaders are complaining about being bombarded with migrants. Greg Abbott decided to give more legal power to local police in an attempt to slow the flow of illegal aliens masquerading as asylum seekers.
