The Las Vegas Courtroom Attacker Is A Repeat Violent Offender

Video of a Las Vegas courtroom attack featuring a man jumping over the judge’s bench to attack her has gone viral. The judge, Mary Kay Holthus, was not seriously injured in the brazen attack. The attacker is no stranger to Holthus or to the legal system. He has an extensive criminal history of mostly violent crime. Deobra Delone Redden was denied bail due to his criminal history. While Holthus was in the process of sentencing him, he leaped over the bench and began to attack her. Video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

Deobra Delone Redden was being sentenced for charges related to a felony battery case. Although the judge was not seriously injured, a courtroom marshall who came to her aid suffered a gash on his forehead and a dislocated shoulder. Redden was immediately re-booked on new felony charges, including battery of a protected person, referring to the judge and the officers in the court. Redden is 30 years old and has a documented history of mental health problems, including diagnoses of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. It is not known if his disorders will weigh into any potential punishment for the Wednesday courtroom attack.
