The European Union (EU) has threatened to ban Twitter over recent moves made by new owner Elon Musk. Musk has been a champion of free speech for quite a while now. Before he purchased Twitter, he was crystal clear about making the platform a fair and equitable place where everyone’s voice got a fair chance to be heard. There would be no more arbitrary suspensions of people due to favoritism or lack thereof. So far, Elon has been following through on his aforementioned goals.
The problem with Elon’s success is that the European Union sees some things that he’s doing as violations of their rules and/or laws. The EU wants Musk to play ball with them or they will ban Twitter from all of their nation-states. Interestingly enough, no such demand has been made toward the Chinese Communist Party and their notoriously invasive social media app called TikTok. That particular app is so toxic that China itself actually bans it from their country in favor of a China-friendly app called Douyin.
