The famous anti-conservative actor Alec Baldwin allegedly accidentally shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins onset of the movie “Rust” in New Mexico. The often-comedic actor was reportedly handed a “hot gun” (a real gun with live ammunition) instead of a prop gun for a particular scene. Baldwin apparently shot the weapon at a camera. One bullet traveled through Hutchins, killing her, then another bullet struck the film’s director Joel Souza. Souza was in the hospital for several hours but was ultimately treated and released. There is an ongoing investigation to figure out how and why this tragedy happened.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time someone has been shot and killed on a movie set due to a “prop” gun that wound up being real. Bruce Lee’s son, Brandon Lee, was shot and killed in 1993 on the set of “The Crow”. One would think that after such a tragedy in Hollywood that steps would be taken to prevent it. Maybe there were steps taken because such an accident hasn’t happened since. But here we are in 2021 dealing with yet another real-life shooting and killing on a movie set.
Alec Baldwin is reportedly distraught at the situation which is understandable. He is an actor and probably had no intentions of actually hurting anyone. Grace and forgiveness should be given to the man, especially after an investigation if he is cleared. However, Alec Baldwin may not be the type of person to return that favor. He has been very vocal against conservative people online, even calling for the jailing of people who attended the January 6th rally even if they didn’t actually hurt anyone. A tweet from 2017 is also haunting Baldwin. He asked about how it must feel to wrongfully kill someone, in reference to a video of an officer killing a suspect.
