The New York City squatter who had Andele Andaloro arrested has been arrested himself, but not before he rented out seven rooms in the home that he illegally occupied. Andele’s case has gone viral and has been viewed by millions of people all over the world. Knowing she could get arrested, her bravery in changing the locks on a squatter is most likely what forced New York’s state government to change the laws on squatting.
A law change and a squatter arrested should equal a happy conclusion, but that is not quite the case yet for Andaloro. There are still other people in her home, and evicting them may be more complicated than it was to remove the original squatter. These people were rented rooms by the squatter, so they may be privy to their rights as tenants. It is reported that up to seven rooms were rented out in the home.
