San Francisco Mayor London Breed announces a universal basic income program for transgender citizens worth $1200 per month. The program will take advantage of a $2 million budget to give 55 people the aforementioned dollar amount for up to 18 months. This decision is probably based on a seven-year-old study that suggests 33% of transgender people live in some form of poverty. To qualify for the UBI payments, potential recipients must apply. It is not quite clear how applicants will be verified. Since someone can easily identify as transgender, anyone who is low-income could apply and potentially get paid.
