President Donald Trump responded to the virus stimulus package that was approved by the House and Senate in a near-unanimous vote with few dissenters. The bill called for Americans with income below $75,000 single or $150,000 married to receive a one-time payment of $600 dollars for economic relief due to the virus. Trump scoffed at the bill and said that Americans need to get payments of at least $2,000 each. Although the President did not expressly say that he would veto the bill in its current state, he most certainly alluded to it.
Nancy Pelosi, AOC, and Elizabeth Warren all agreed with the President’s call to give American a one-time payment of $2,000 virus relief. What nobody on the left who agrees with the raise in payments mentioned was what the President also wants, which is a reduction (or outright elimination) in the pork and waste that is in the bill. The entire stimulus package is $900 billion dollars on top of the $1.4 trillion dollars for normal Government funding. To give every man, woman, and child in the United States $600 dollars would cost around $200 billion. So where is the other $700 billion going?
Foreign aid is a small part of total United States spending. But the question is, why is there any foreign aid in the virus stimulus package? Also, why is there money going to the Kennedy Center, a place that cannot even be visited due to virus regulations? A lack of proper spending here a problem that must be solved. And if it does not get solved, then the $2,000 one-time payment would simply be more debt on top of debt that is already promised.
The true solution here is to fully, and completely, open up the country so there is no longer a need for the constant back-and-forth with virus stimulus payments and shady bills loaded with pork. Will the Democrats want to do that? Only time will tell.
