Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot says that she will only grant one-on-one interviews to black and brown journalists. To be more specific, the Mayor says she will “prioritize” interview requests from “people of color” on the occasion of her two-year inauguration anniversary. Lightfoot’s decision comes from her observation of the “overwhelmingly white and male” status of the local media’s press corps. Her wife, who is white, has not given a comment to the media as of the publishing of this article.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Twitter: “I ran to break up the status quo that was failing so many. That isn’t just in City Hall. It’s a shame that in 2021, the City Hall press corps is overwhelmingly White in a city where more than half of the city identifies as Black, Latino, AAPI or Native American.” / Twitter
